Twenty-two

Twenty-two stop lights went out within a minute of each other along quite a few blocks downtown because of a widespread power outage. The blinking mess of backup red lights confused the mass of drivers that were trying to come through the area. Though they had literally taken a test for this, it seemed many passed who should not have. Six accidents were had in the few hours that the power was down, and there were many more near misses. One was wholly fatal as a minivan full of distractions ran into an equally distracted truck driver going perpendicular to them. The wreckage looked as though someone had peeled a can open very poorly, found oil and fire and flesh inside, then tossed it with such vigor it split. As soon as the lights were fixed, no one paid any more attention to the broken chunks of glass still on the asphalt.
